THE IGNITION POINT

TALK TO YOUR MATES is the developing redemption of a dark time in my life. In 2021 I reached a point of emotional paralysis…stuck in self-inflicted isolation, despair, and perceived failure as a husband, father, and friend. Separated from my wife and daughters, I spiraled deeper into depression and hopelessness, finding myself welcoming an end to it all.

As a man and committed athlete, I had defaulted to a “grind it out” mentality, one that had served me well in the past but was now proving to be more than ineffective and quite truthfully more damaging to myself and those around me. This “I can do it on my own” approach had collapsed to an epic degree and I found myself at a crisis point.

Reaching a point of desperation and surrender, I finally admitted I needed help…arguably the highest hurdle to clear in anyone’s mental health journey. It was then I quickly encountered the next set of hurdles in the form of financial barriers to treatment. Visits to medical professionals were expensive, counseling was expensive, medications and other forms of treatment can be expensive. I was fortunate enough to have the help of family and friends, but found myself troubled that others in my situation might not be as fortunate.

This was the ignition point for the concept of TALK TO YOUR MATES. I fully believed there was more purpose to my struggle than simply those purposes for myself and found myself desiring to create something that would have an impact on the men’s mental health crisis taking place. In an effort to break down societal, emotional, and financial barriers around men’s mental health, TALK TO YOUR MATES is meant to be a rally cry for change and the spark of a movement. A movement I sincerely hope touches just one person…who talks to another…who talks to another…who talks to another…until we see effective change around the stigma surrounding men’s mental health and an elimination of the financial barriers around treatment.

TALK TO YOUR MATES has the potential to be a conduit for unimaginable change by connecting people to each other and connecting people to resources, all while funding the strengthening of those resources and the usage of them.

Please join me on the journey as I seek to bring TALK TO YOUR MATES into 501(c)(3) status.
